Clockwork Angel

“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

Summary

After death of her aunt – her only guardian – Tessa Grey comes to London to find her brother. Instead she gets kidnapped by people who claim that she posseses powers she didn’t know of.

Writing

There is something about Cassie’s writing that’s very appealing to me. It’s so simple and natural, but at the same time insanely beautiful. Her descriptions are incredible. I always feel like I am right there, beside those characters.

Characters

This book has the most amazing cast of characters. This book could be 500 pages of them just sitting in a room and talking about weather and I would probably be so entertained I wouldn’t be able to stop reading.

The characters seem very real and it’s incredibly easy to get attached to them.

Plot

The plot is the biggest weakness of this book. Before anything interesting starts to happen you need to get through 200 pages of info dumps interrupted by the occasional dialogues between the characters. Don’t get me wrong, the introduction to this world is done in a very clever way, but if you are already familiar with shadowhunters it’s hard not to get bored.

Overall

It’s a solid introduction to an amazing trilogy. It has the most wonderful cast of characters (and the most perfect love triangle in the history of YA). I can’t wait to continue with this series, even though I know it’s going to break my heart into a million tiny pieces.

  1. I definitely agree with you! With all of the things you said, haha. I don’t know how or why but Cassie just manages to create these amazing cast of characters and their stories and the way they interact is so enjoyable. On top of that, her writing style is so well-balanced in my opinion, there’s a good amount of descriptions about the world and the things that are going on, and the way that they are written is just perfect.
I hope you have fun reading the sequels!

  2. The Infernal Devices is my favourite of all the Shadowhunter series. I just love this particular cast of characters, the Victorian London setting, and the general story. I could re-read this trilogy over and over again and never be bored.

    1. It’s my favourite of all of the Shadowhunter series as well! I would re-read it over and over again if it wasn’t for the fact that this series is so painful. I still haven’t recovered from Clockwork Princess and I read it like 2 years ago!
