Sometimes when you want to find something you need to know when to stop looking.”
Summary
12 year-old Elizabeth Harding has a difficult life. While still coming to terms with her father’s unexpected death, she has to deal with nights filled with terrifying nightmares and days of being bullied at school. And portal to another dimension opening in her bedroom is not going to make things easier for her.
Writing
I have to say I really enjoyed the writing style. It was very informal and light, easy and fun to read. The only thing I had a small issue with were the onomatopoeias. There were quite a lot of them, especially in the beginning. They were kind of silly and instead of helping me with imagining the sound, they were somehow making it even harder. I don’t know about you, but I have never heard anything make a “clunketta-clunketta-thrummm” sound.
Characters
This book has a great cast of fun and quirky characters, though all of them are a little flat. None of them is really well-developed, but that’s okay. It’s a short book, I didn’t expect anything else. And the story doesn’t really need complex and three-dimensional characters anyway.
Plot
It’s a really fast paced story. The plot is interesting, fun and is not easy to predict. It actually managed to surprise me a couple of times.
Overall
It’s a book about a young, intelligent girl who goes on an amazing adventure. It’s a wonderful story about bravery, friendship and self-discovery. So basically it’s simply a really good middle-grade novel.
I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
š that onomatopoeia is great! I’ve never heard anything make that sound either. Might have to check this read out
