Summary
One unfortunate, tragic accident changed the life of Cassidy Blake forever. She didn’t die, but she got too close to it to come back unchanged. Now, she is somewhere between the land of the living and the dead. And nobody has even noticed the difference. Even her parents, the famous ghost-hunters, haven’t figured out the fact that her new best friend is an actual ghost.

Writing
It felt very strange to read Victoria’s book that was written so… simply. But I know who the target audience for this book is, and I couldn’t help but appreciate that even though her writing style in this novel is very different, it’s still just as magical and captivating as always.

Characters
Cassidy is an amazing protagonist. She is brilliant, strong and resilient, but her voice is not overly mature. She fits her age perfectly.

Jacob is a great sidekick. He’s loyal and hilarious, and that’s basically all I need. But his refusal to share information about the Veil with Cassidy makes me question his motives. I am sure there is much more to him than meets the eye. And I really can’t wait to discover exactly what it is.

Plot
This book follows a very simple, linear storyline. Though that definitely didn’t make it any less interesting. What I was surprised by the most, was the fact that even though this is a middle-grade book, it had some very, very creepy moments.

My biggest issue was the fact that it took a long while for the action to actually start. And with how short this book was, it made the climax feel a bit too rushed.

It’s a fantastic book for people of all ages. If you are in the mood for a creepy ghost story – look no further.
